The Gamskarkogel-Hut (also called Badgasteiner Hut) is located directly on the summit of the Gamskarkogel, 2,467 meters above sea level. The panoramic views are astonishing, the sunrises and sunsets are fantastic.
The Gamskarkogel is considered to be the highest "Grasberg" of Europe. Grasberg means a mountain with vegetation all the way up to the summit. The Gamskarkogelhütte itself is considered to be one of the oldest huts in the eastern Alps or even in Europe and was built purely for mountaineering purposes . The oldest part of the hut is nowadays the small kitchen. The hut was built by Archduke Erherzog Johann. He was often in the Gastein valley on the mountains, including the Gamskarkogel and the hut, as a hunting guest.
The hut offers approximately 24 beds in several rooms.

There is plenty of space inside (approx. 30) as well as outside. Supplies to the hut are transported by helicopter and by carrying (the ropeway is broken and cannot be used). The drinking water must be carried and water is collected in rainwater tanks. There is no or little electricity.
The kitchen offers typical Austrian mountain food, and as the cooking is very simple because it is only possible with wood of gas stoves. Fresh ingredients and products are used. Most of these, like meat, cheese, butter, vegetables and bread come directly from the region. We also hava a selection of beer, mineral water, juices and wines from Styria, Burgenland and Lower Austria as well as South Tyrol. In the morning we serve a Breakfast's buffet. A packaged lunch can be purchased at a small additional cost.
